The Wedding Cake
My main bit of advice when it comes to your wedding cake is unless you make cakes for a living don't attempt it yourself. I really wanted to make my own wedding cake with one of my bridesmaids but it was so stressful that on the bake test just after christmas I decided if it wasn't smooth I am paying someone. It wasn't smooth so I went on the hunt to find someone.
We knew we wanted 3 tiers and it had to fit in with the lace and pearl themes of the wedding. I searched for local cake makers and got a variety of quotes but went with the first person I had spoken to you. You know that feeling you just get when you know it's right? That is exactly what I had with Sam. She was so friendly, really helpful and had the added bonus of living 5 minutes from my mums which is where we got married. I sent her some visuals of what we wanted and explained the different flavours. We then went to meet her and tried her sponges. She had designed some lace patterns to show us and I just felt so relieved because I knew the cake was going to have the wow factor we wanted.
The bottom tier was chocolate, the middle lemon and the top vanilla. We have frozen the top layer to have near our anniversary. The colours of the icing fitted with our colour theme, she used ribbon I gave her to colour match. I knew I didn't want anything to fussy on the top as the cake was going to be the main focus so just went for a simple love sign, we also had these love signs throughout the bake off section (this post will come soon). If you live in the Cambridgeshire area then definitely make contact with Sam. The cake was just beautiful, made at a great price and she is so helpful.
