I have been to Poppy's Vintage Tea Room a couple of times but never for afternoon tea. Glenn and I got a voucher as one of our wedding presents so last weekend we headed on down. Afternoon tea is one of our favourite things to do. There is nothing better then stuffing your face full of sandwiches and cake. When we arrived we were offered some elderflower fizz, I drunk both as I have a slight obsession with anything elderflower and Glenn is not a fan.
They then brought us over our tea and sandwich and cake selection. This consisted of proper ham and mustard, egg, salmon and cream cheese as well as the classic cheese and pickle. The cakes came in the form of a beautiful mini lemon drizzle, victoria sponge, chocolate cupcake and carrot cake, along with a homemade scone, cream and jam. I want to say we managed it all but that would be a lie, we gave it a good go though.
Poppy's tea room is dressed in vintage cutlery and crockery that make me feel right at home. The vintage is style is not for some but it is something I adore. The afternoon tea is simple with good sandwich fillings and scrummy homemade cakes. It is definitely not on par with the more fancy afternoon teas but if you want something less lavish and more homely then I would highly recommend you visit.
